Cannabis Coconut Oil Uses & Benefits
Coconut oil has tons of health benefits that make it a far better option for cannabis infusion than regular butter. Coconut oil is vegan, great for your skin, and a good source of antioxidants. It has gained a lot of popularity in the cannabis community because of its high fat content. According to the USDA, each tablespoon of coconut oil has 12 grams of saturated fat, which is 5 grams more than your typical tbsp of butter. This surplus of fatty acids means that coconut oil is able to retain a ton of cannabinoids from your flower during the infusion process. Plus, coconut oil can be used in tons of different applications. You can use it as a topical for a massage, make it into a lip balm, or even use it as creamer in your coffee. How to make Cannabis Infused Coconut Oil
Making THC-infused coconut oil at home is quite simple and only requires a couple of ingredients and materials. Plus, it can be stored for several months so you can make it ahead of time without worrying about it going bad. If you are a visual learner, watch our how to make cannabis infused coconut oil video below!
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup of ground cannabis (approximately 3.5-5 grams)
- 1/2 cup of refined coconut oil (refined will not have a coconut scent/taste but this is up to your preference)
Materials:
- Strainer or cheesecloth
- Grinder
- Double-boiler or slow cooker.
Directions:
- Add your nugs into your grinder and grind them gently. You don’t want the weed to be too fine otherwise you won't be able to strain it out of the final product.
- Now, add the coconut oil and cannabis in your double-boiler or slow cooker and heat the two together on LOW for about 6 hours. This will start decarboxylation which is the process of activating the compounds in weed like the famous THC cannabinoid. Just remember to keep it at a temperature below 245°F otherwise you risk scorching the bud and destroying the active compounds.
- Use a strainer to get all the bud out of your oil.
- If you are wondering how to store THC infused coconut oil, simply keep it in a dark place or refrigerate it. As long as you store it in a tight jar, it should last for at least two months!
