How to Fix a Vape Pen That Won’t Charge

Layne Alfred |

Like any electronic device, vape pens can sometimes run into charging issues. If your vape pen isn’t charging, it could be due to a problem with the charger, battery, or connection points. So, let’s get your pen up and hitting again! This guide will walk you through troubleshooting steps to rule out before you replace your battery.

Why won’t my vape pen charge?

1. Faulty Charger or Cable

The issue could be with your charging cable or adapter rather than the vape itself. If your battery isn't connecting to the charger, try a different charger and/or cable if you have a backup. Most Ooze pens use type-C chargers, which are the "universal" chargers you probably have for a lot of other devices around your house. If you think you need to replace altogether, we sell extras of each charger type!

2. Dirty or Damaged Connection Points

If you’re using our smart charger (that screws onto the top of the battery like a cart) and your vape pen isn’t charging, you might have a connection issue if the threads are dirty. Wipe the threads down with a swab and try again. Dust, debris, or residue on the charging port or battery threads can prevent a proper connection.

3. Battery Depletion

If the battery has been dead for an extended period of time, it may take longer than you expect to revive. Plug it in and leave it alone!

4. Incorrect Power Source

Are you using your laptop, TV, or car charger to replenish your battery? It may not provide enough power to charge your pen in a reasonable amount of time. Plus, doing this will void your warranty since it’s not the recommended method of charging for all our vapes.

How to Troubleshoot Charger Issues

1. Check your charger and cable.

·         Plug your charger into a wall adapter, not a laptop, TV, or car, for the best results.

·         If your battery isn’t charging, try using a different charger or cable if available.

·         Test the charger with another wall outlet to ensure the power source isn’t the issue.

2. Inspect and clean connection points.

·         Use a cotton swab with rubbing alcohol to clean the charging port and battery connection.

·         Make sure it’s completely dry before attempting to charge again.

3. Give your battery enough time to charge.

·         If your vape battery has been dead for a long time, plug it in and leave it alone for at least a full hour.  Some batteries take longer to wake up after full depletion.

If your vape still doesn’t turn on after charging and following these steps, the battery itself could be faulty. Additionally, if your battery is swollen or leaking, not lighting up when it’s been charging, the battery drains super quickly, or gets excessively hot after minimal use, it’s time for a replacement. Reach out to customer service to check if your device is still under warranty.

Extra Tips on Maintaining Healthy Charging

  • Always use the correct charger for your device.
  • Keep the connection points clean to avoid charging issues.
  • Don’t let your battery completely drain for extended periods.
  • Avoid exposing your vape pen to extreme temperatures that could damage the battery.

By following these troubleshooting steps, you should be able to fix most charging issues with your vape pen. If not, consider replacing the battery or reaching out to customer service for support!
